Winter Break Reflections from NASWSI
As the Fall 2025 semester at New Mexico Highlands University’s Facundo Valdez School of Social Work ends, the Native American Social Work Studies Institute (NASWSI) celebrates the resilience, dedication, and cultural strength of our students, faculty, alumni, and community partners.
A Semester of Growth
This semester, NASWSI continued its mission to integrate Native perspectives into social work education and practice. Through culturally grounded curriculum, community partnerships, and leadership development, we have strengthened pathways for Indigenous voices in social work. These achievements reflect the dedication of our entire community-students, faculty, and staff working together to advance culturally responsive education and support Native families.
Winter Break: A Time to Reflect and Reconnect
With Christmas and New Year’s approaching, winter break offers an opportunity to:
· Reconnect with family, elders, and tribal traditions.
· Reflect on personal and academic achievements.
· Recharge spiritually and mentally for the year ahead.
For many Native communities, winter is a season of storytelling and renewal. We encourage everyone to embrace these traditions as a source of grounding and inspiration.
Looking Ahead to Spring 2026
NASWSI will continue to expand educational offerings, deepen research initiatives, and foster culturally responsive practices. Together, we will advance social justice and strengthen tribal sovereignty through social work.
Gratitude and Warm Wishes
To our students, faculty, alumni, and partners—thank you for your commitment and contributions. May this winter season bring peace, joy, and renewal. We look forward to welcoming you back in January with renewed energy and shared purpose.
