Native American Social Work Studies Institute Announces its Student Ambassador

We are thrilled to announce that Marklin Morales has been selected as Student Ambassador for the New Mexico Highlands University’s Facundo Valdez School of Social Work, explicitly representing the Native American Social Work Studies Institute (NASWSI). Marklin is pursuing a dual degree in MSW/MBA at New Mexico Highlands University, demonstrating his commitment to social work and business administration.

Marklin brings a wealth of experience to this role. He has worked with Kansas Serves Native American Families (KSNAF), where he performed social work-related duties, providing instruction and counseling to children and staying up-to-date with various aspects of the KSNAF program. He also completed an internship with Healing the Sacred, gaining experience in community service, mentorship, and organizing virtual healing circles.

In addition to his social work experience, Marklin has a vital community service and leadership background. He has held multiple positions of responsibility in various clubs and has received numerous scholarships, demonstrating his dedication and commitment to his studies and community.

As a Student Ambassador, Marklin will represent the NASWSI at community meetings and events. He will also meet with the Director of the NASWSI, Dr. Melissa Riley, and provide input on training and research topics for tribal and non-tribal groups. His education and experience make him an excellent choice for this role, and we look forward to his contributions to the NASWSI and the broader community.

Dr. Riley is an enrolled member of the Mescalero Apache Tribe of New Mexico. She has worked in the field of social work for over 23 years and is currently the Director of the Native American Social Work Studies Institute. Her passion is working with people and teaching and learning new things.
